REPORT
ON THE WORKING OF
THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG
FOR 1930.
THE NEW Chancellor.
Sir William Peel arrived in the Colony on the 9th May, 1930, and on that day he became the Chancellor of the University in succession to Sir Cecil Clementi.
STAFF.
Mr. Stanley V. Boxer acted as Registrar from the 16th April, 1930, to the 16th January, 1931, during the absence on leave of Mr. W. B. Finnigan.
Mr. H. G. Hughes, M.A., Reader in History went on long leave in May 1930 and during his absence resigned his appoint- ment. His work is being done by Major A. N. Macfadyen, B.A. (Oxon) pending the appointment of a new Reader in History.
Mr. M. A. Cooper, B.Com. (London), arrived on 31st July, 1930, to become the first incumbent of the lectureship in Com- merce which was created by the Council at a meeting held on May 10th, 1929.
The University suffered a loss by the death of Dr. C. Y. Wang, M.D., Professor of Pathology who died on the 15th De- cember, 1930.
The appointment of a successor is under con- sideration. In the meantime local part-time arrangements are being made for the conduct of the work of the Department of Pathology.
VISITORS.
H.E. the Governor and Chancellor of the University paid his first visit to the University on the 30th June, 1930.
Professor J. Eliot Smith, F.R.S., and Sir John Bland Sutton visited the University.
